Per Nick B - A corncrake was found dead by the side of the A6906 between Locko Park and Kirk Hallam near to Waterlog Farm, Dale Abbey last Thursday 28th, sadly a road casualty.
Have seen a photo and reported it to DOS.

Local bird or passing through?

Thanks to whoever found and put out the Black-necked Grebe at Carsington this afternoon. I was at Wyver with Chris but went up to to twitch it. It was still there at 18.45 left of Lane End hide. It's an adult in winter plumage.

From Steve -
"You might have to read this twice- 4 LONG - BILLED DOWITCHERS flew SE over APT at 08.56!!! I saw them very well and have just checked the call which is spot on. I know it's a bizarre record that will generate a few laughs but I'm 100%" Paul Naylor does it again! So where are they now?

Black-necked Grebe still at Carsington today at Millfields. There was a bit of confusion recently regarding the BNG's. Because it's been 7 years since the last one we thought it unlikely that we could have 2 different birds in the space of a week. But that's exactly what we've had.

The few of us that have seen both birds agree that plumage wise they were different birds. The bird that's currently there is still showing juvenile plumage yet that the one on Sept 4th was far more advanced in mostly 1st winter plumage.

I don't know Paul Naylor but that's one hell of a record to claim.

I do and he is a fantastic birder, eyes, ears you name it!
It's a sensational record I agree and I'm sure they may need to rock up somewhere else (Rutland?) to help.
I don't think there's ever been two together so it will take some submission, credit to him.

From Phil Andrews on RBI forum "In Britain there are no records of more than two birds together although five were present at Rahasane Turlough, County Galway on the 10th October 1963."

Great views of the Bittern this morning at Willington flying around the west side of the reserve and landing a number of times in the reed fringes on that side. Also Blackwit (possibly 2) and Greenshank present.

Just had a call from Clive. A Great White Egret has just dropped in to Brown Ale Bay at Carsington . That's the bay from Paul Stanley hide. Often best viewed from the path along Hopton bypass.

Not bird related but a Nathusius Pipistrelle bat was recorded at Carsington Water last night. A first for the site. Don't know how many Derbyshire records there are but there's only been around 1200 for the UK and Ireland.

Managed a couple of ropey shots of the BN Grebe at Carsington this morning.
Not much else to report, 5 Ringed Plover, 1 Dunlin, the first Siskin of the autumn and somebody has lost a Parakeet sp. heard by Mark and Roger.

Anyone got any details of the Red Breasted Fly reported on Birdguides from Longshaw on 23rd Sept?

No, but I wouldn't mind knowing myself. I've asked several people but so far have drawn a blank. I'm not overly optimistic to be honest.
