went upto carsington this evening, went from vis centre through to sheepwash, heard the redstart but couldnt see it! HEARD little owl, didnt see him either!
to the left of the wildlife centre there were 3 or 4 willow warblers, looked like juveniles, only saw house and sand martins and swallows today, didnt even see one swift! Moving on round was a warbler, which im going to say was a chiffchaff, it was amazingly bright, really lemon yellow on its rump and underside, also it only had a quarter of its tail, pochard in with coots and tufteds, stopped at lane end, not much there, but 30 mute swans were on the water, between lane end and sheepwash carpark a lovely flock of about 12 linnets in the field, Had an amazing time watching kingfisher fishing to the left of the hide, 2 common sandpipers, yellow legged gull, which flew through, common tern, oh and a pair of bullfimch and a single willow tit behind sheepwash hide, paul stanley hide area was quiet, apart from huge numbers of coot and tufted ducks.
Butterflies were represented by about 10 painted ladies, huge numbers of whites and meadow browns, best butterfly was a single clouded yellow.
Azure damselflies plus a male southern hawker and common darter were noted too. Dont think i have forgotten anything
B :)

Not a lot doing up Carsi today. Yellow Legged Gull still there, 2 Common Sandpipers, 2 Buzzards, Sparrowhawk, Teal, Pochard, Gadwall, Kingfisher, 3 Swifts, 3 Sand Martins, and quite a few Swallows and Housemartins moving south. A pair of Coots have 4 fresh young and a pair of Moorhens also have at least 3 newish young. Not a great day for Dragons but a single Brown Hawker was in front of P.Stanely hide.

Hi Dave, just out of total curiosity, do you have the date when you photographed this yellow legged gull? I photgraphed a bird on wednesday at the wildlife centre which i am presuming is a michahellis, but is getting into winter plumage, i am wondering if it is the same bird that has become regular?

Clive's right, It was no where near there ;) I had it flying around the Wildlife Centre and then flying at the north end near P Stanley hide. It does sometimes give photographic opportunities but It's just a bit of pot luck where it will be. I took this photo from Sheepwash a while back with my cheapo camera.

Just had Osprey by A6 at Rowsley on way into Bakewell. Oppo layby in dead tree that the cormorants are usually in. It flew twice but appeared settled. Looking foer it again now.

Went to Carsington this morning and had Osprey and Hobby over Sheepwash, whilst the Yellow-legged Gull was still by the Wildlife Centre.

I had a possible Osprey at very long range over Carsington pasture this morning, where also at least 5 Wheatear.Anyway spurred on by your sighting I went up to Sheepwash and had very little..Common Sand,Kingfisher,YLG..left the hide at 15:30 and spotted an Osprey being mobbed by a Peregrine from the car park. Hot footed it back to the hide, where Osprey was low infront for about 10 minutes before drifting over Hall Wood.Dodgy record shot attached.

Nice one, Clive. There's definitely been two in the area because the one at Carsi has been there all day plus the one near Rowsley.

Looks like you had better views than I did, I was watching it over Sheepwash from by Stones Island and by the time I had got back round to Sheepwash there was no further sign.

I have been told recently that the Little Owls and Barn Owls are still at Ogston. Wood Warblers also seem to be making a frequent appearance.

Good visit Friday - bird ringing was excellent as ever and junior got his first Gropper in the hand! I kept reminding him that we had to work hard for them "in my day"....;)
The Ospreys are showing really well on the new lagoon too (see attached).

Plenty of "celebs" there and some good talks including the worlds biggest twitch record being broken.

Anyone else go?

Hi Daniel, went yesterday, Heard about the groppers as we watched the demo at the end of the show, they had blue tits and great tits, a cracking little party of long tailed tits, a chiffchaff, but the best really was a Willow Tit at the end, It was a cracking day, just ran out of time!
Cracking pics of the osprey, we only saw it in flight on one occasion.
Glad i finally got to look at all the big scopes!
