and I think this is why!!! no prizes for guessing who he is referring too........i have witnessed that very special "field craft" on many an occasion......

Honestly its just unbelievable.... well its not actually, but it should be:C

This just makes me totally disgusted.... I watched these birds sitting snoozing and feeding at relatively close range (As close as I felt comfortable was c.20feet but they came to me!) and they were totally settled....... GRRRRRRRRRRR!! Fieldcraft is dead and has been for a good while......

Its this sort of behaviour that will get news suppressed.... and I cannot argue against it either.

will have to PM you so as not to offend! I have sent him the link and his reaction is also unprintable!

I suspect the truth hurts too much and that is exactly what I wrote. It's not the first time that I've seen such terrible behaviour from this individual. Thanks for sending him the link always nice to get a new reader ;)

Thanks for pointing out the Pies & Birds blog Daniel, quite enjoyable to read. Now to find out where he's seen the owls, something I'd love to photograph.

Someone on Flickr mentioned they'd been on a Birds Of Prey photography workshop in Dronfield, something else I'd like to find.

Yes its always a humorous account and was even better when you recognise a character involved!
I mentioned to Dave that I was going to a friends farm last night at Ireton Wood to check on some young owls, that the guy thought were barnies.......the hole was in a large Ash Tree and on closer inspection got two young Tawnies peeping out (photo to follow when I load them).
I was surprised as other pairs I watch have fledged weeks ago, so are these just late or are they round 2?? I recall a pair in London being photographed with well grown young at the end of Feb!
Lovely to see but was hoping for Barnies as they do seem to be doing quite well now.
He mentioned that Buzzard has gone very scarce which we linked to the recent poisonings but he has had Red Kite locally again this spring.
There is a Hobby territory nearby but they are extremely elusive right now.

That must have been poor fieldcraft to flush dotterels - a (quiet) group of about six of us got within feet of the Stanage birds last year, and they actually ended up walking towards us! They're not the shyest of birds...

Sadly Wood Warbler is a very declining species in Derbys these days... they seem to be hard this year from what I've heard.... on an annoying note a Purple Heron has missed us by a short distance at Kelham Bridge NR in North Leics......

Harrier Sp Beeley

Popped upto Beeley Triangle this evening, and just as we were getting stuff out of the car, i looked up at a largeish bird of prey, it was a male harrier i'm thinking hen, but cant be 100% on sucha short view, in the few seconds i took grabbing my scope for a better view it had flown off north / north east.

Also up there were 3 hobbies, a few cuckoos calling. Had views of some red grouse, and 3 maybe 4 grasshopper warblers too.

Sounds like a nice evening..................did you just park on the triangle? Hobbies get attracted to Northern Eggers when on the wing (though not sure if they are yet).
Will PM you about other bits.

Hi Steph,

As far as I know they've not come back to Shire Hill in Glossop this year - I've been in a few times since mid April and I know a couple of other people have as well. No idea why, the wood hasn't changed, if anything it's better because the quarry is no longer being worked. Still Tree Pipits, Spot and Pied Fly there though, Cuckoo from time to time as well.

There's a Hobby near Shire Hill at the moment. Directions are pretty long winded, so if anyone wants to know more send me a PM.

Had great views of a Wood Warbler today at Padley. Also Spotted Flycatcher, several Pied Flys and Redstarts and a Stonechat.
