hi all, managed to get down to bowling green today with my boy. at last he's getting old enough to take with me. anyway i couldn't stay for long but managed a couple of year ticks and a lifer. years included wigeon, teal, avocet, common sandpiper and long tailed tit. and the lifer was of course the grey phal. missed it in the hide at first but as we walked back from the viewing platform i noticed something white in the reeds. behold the grey phal, spinning around( i've only seen this on tv) feeding. what a great bird, well chuffed

Right way up again
Common redshank in summer plumage at Bowling Green Marsh RSPB today as well as quite a few courting ducks. Oh, how the times are changing...
Saw my first spotted redshank, which convienently stood with a load of commons, just to highlight the difference. Dawlish Warren by train tomorrow if the weather's good again.

There's 2 Great Northerns at Cattedown now, and the Yellow-browed still at Central Park. Unless it calls you'll never see it, but now and again it calls like mad! Its in the low bushes right up against the East wall of the swimming pool mostly, tucks itself away but when it does show its nice and low and close. I almost gave up until I heard it from about 100 yds away !

the YBW was present all morning, it gets on the East side for the simple reason of all the wind the other side no doubt, so probably best when it IS windy!

Little Gull at Hope's Nose all morning today, plus a couple of Purple Sands.

YBW there late afternoon on the eastern side - very mobile though as well as vocal - favouring lower bushes and shrubs sheltered from wind

Yes they are canny little things and the light was not very good had to shoot on ISO 1600 to get those not very good pics.

Tav, whereabouts in Cebtral Park is the bird best viewed from?
Go to the swimming pool and the bird is on the east side in a Mohonia bush best to go in the morning as it shows the best at that time. :bounce:
