Dictaphone recommendations (1 Viewer)

I usually make notes on trips old school using a notebook but find on overseas guided tours where the birds are coming thick and fast that I don't get the time til back in the minibus or digs and then have to try and remember. I've been pondering whether a dictaphone might be more useful to record on site and then write up later. Does anyone use one and can recommend a model?

How about the function on your smartphone - assuming you are like most folk these days, and carry one with you wherever you go.

I did play around with that last year but, if I remember, it records each recording separately rather than one 'string which was a bit annoying. But maybe I'll try again as would be the most useful way of doing it. Thanks

I'd been thinking along the same lines as Allen. I'd just switch the phone onto record then just say the names as the bird/s are identified. Easy then to make your written notes when you have the time.

Getting them singing at the same time would be a bonus. I wasn't thinking of you getting recordings of the individuals as it was writing the names down you seemed to have an issue with?

If you want an old school Dictaphone type voice recorder then Sony still makes them.

There are also plenty of clip on recorders, they record continuously and are aimed at the video recording market. There are many on the market, ZOOM F2 is a good example, but there are many more cheaper ( and lower quality) offerings on Amazon.

Had a play with voice recorder in Samsung and looks like it'll do the job. It only separates recordings if I stop rather than pause, restarting a pause keeps it in same audio file. Either way will give it a try on next overseas trip
