Right now, on this forum, there are two active threads: "Who Does Both DSLR and Digiscoping?" and "Digiscoping vs. DSLR Test" 1. By "Digiscoping" most people seem to assume this means using a spotting scope+eyepiece+a point and shot camera with a zoom lens. 2. By "DSLR" everyone seems to agree this means a digital single lens reflex camera coupled directly to a conventional photographic long lens telephoto (prime lens) or a zoom telephoto with or without a teleconverter between the camera and telephoto lens. In my case I use two different methods neither of which meets the two definitions above: 1. A spotting scope coupled to a DSLR camera by a "SLR adaptor". In this case neither a camera lens nor eyepiece is used. The SLR adaptor however is not just a passive machanical adaptor but is an optically active 5 element device. It operates rather like a 2x teleconverter does between a DSLR and and a conventional telephoto long lens as best as I can tell. See first pic. 2. A astro scope coupled to a DSLR camera at prime focus. Prime focus means that there is nothing between the objective lens of the scope and the sensor on the camera - just air. A very simple direct method used for years long before digiscoping became wide spread. See second pic. Questions: 1. How do you, personally, define the terms "Digiscoping" and "DSLR" 2. How does your definitions fit the two methods that I use as outlined above? Off hand, to me, it seems we need a more general term like "digital tele-photography" or some such to avoid a lot of confusion about what we are talking about. Thanks, SF
