Dippers (1 Viewer)

Once a bird lover ... always a bird lover
hi there

I want to ask a question about Dippers (UK)

Why is there no ringing of these birds - just curious

Stop Brexit!
There is in some places! Depends on where you are, whether there's any ringing schemes for them near you. They tend not to travel very far.
Ray Mears program on the river Wye, shown today, they were ringing both Dippers and Kingfishers.

I did most of my ringing training on Dippers (and Grey Wagtails) and, though I have long left the UK, my former trainer's focus is still Dippers.

I'm intrigued as to how you catch them. Do you just string a net across the river?

Essentually yes, short span mist net across the stream in the non-breeding season - dippers almost exclusively follow the stream, so you just sit and wait or simply loop up/down river and walk then in. Also many pulli at the nest in the breeding season.
