hi
I was going to build a homemade robinson trap but dont know what the dimensions should be for the base/tub thing. (diameter and depth/height)
Does anybody use a bought or made robinson trap that could give me some ideas?
thanks

Hi Callapus.

I have buildt two of the Robinson type trap with help from this website: http://www.tcdigitalphotography.co.uk/diy_robinson_trap.htm

I used two slightly different sizes for the tub, one Ø 55 cm and 40 cm height. The other trap is a bit bigger with a tub Ø 63 cm, and height 45 cm. I dont find any differences for them in use- they both catch well, and are easy to handle.

Good luck

Hello Callapus,

I came across a tub the other day that is very similar in size to that of my commercially made Robinson Trap.

It's called a 'Tuff Tub' made of heavy duty Polypropylene. Black in colour, it has two rope handles for carrying. Top dia 55cm. Depth 42cm. Base dia 42cm.
Made by a company called Contico. They're quite rigid and light in weight.
I found these at a machine tool company called Cromwell. They have outlets over most of the UK. Their company code for this item is:- 1620BK 69LTR Multi Purpose Black Tub. Cost £10.18 inc vat.

You would need to fit a supporting strip just beneath the lip of the tub to hold the top part of the trap and add a central hole in the base for drainage.

You can check out where your nearest Cromwell shop is by going to:-
www.cromwell.co.uk. If your nearest store doesn't have them in stock they can get them by the following day.
