Not all birders seem interested in talking optics but some are and might even let you have a look through a nice pair of bins. Just don't press the matter if they don't get hooked...Brands don't matter too much on your quest to get an enjoyable view, they are more for the ego of some. Models, sample variation and personal taste do. I like my Nikons a lot, among other reasons as they're the perfect sleeper - a Nikon porro could be a < $100 pair or something truly great - only the initiated know and it's less likely to get stolen than a pair with a blue square, a red point or a silver bird...Joachim</blockquote>
