Do you clean nest boxes after the season? (1 Viewer)

Registered User
I had a pair of Oak Titmouse use my nest box to raise their family of three chicks. Now they are all out of the nest, flying happily together for a few weeks more before the young ones go their own way.

After a nesting season, do you clean the nest boxes? Or do you leave as they are?
Do birds look for clean boxes? Or do they prefer nests to re-use?

Many thanks!

Hi Luca, I always clean out nest boxes after the young have fledged, removing the nest and any other debris and giving the box ( and an old saucepan which has proved an attractive option for the birds too!) a good clean with the same bird friendly disinfectant I use on our feeders.
