Many of you here will know my brother, Chris Parnell, who started this thread back in 2006. Tragically, Chris passed away on Tuesday evening. I have posted a thread about Chris on the Community board for anyone who knew him and would like to comment.

Very sad news, a lot of Dorset birders(myself included) owe thanks to Chris for starting this thread and keeping it going in the leaner times. And also for his work with the daily sightings page of the DBC.

RIP Chris.

Went to blashford lakes for the first time today.
Saw
Sparrowhawk, wigeon, mallard, moorhen, coot, herring gull, black headed gull, egyption goose, kingfisher, cormorant, pintail, mute swan, lapwing, great tit, nuthatch, blue tit, robin, chaffinch, grey heron, little grebe, great crested grebe and a lifer in the form of gooseander.
Low point was missing the ruddy duck and not getting to use the hide windows in the woodland hide because an older couple refused to give up their seats.

Here's the little fella.
Really wasn't expecting to see him in the centre of town! He's been there for the past two days now, so your luck might be in if you can visit tomorrow. It's on the building next to Richmond house. There's a large porch front for its entrance and it sits there.

On the subject of Black Redstarts, I had at least 4 at the lighthouse at Durlston yesterday (an adult male and 3+ "brown" ones) and there were at least another two in Swanage town centre; one on the Methodist Church and another slightly further up the High Street. Must have been more around. Late Wheatear at Durlston too, where I also watched a male peregrine circle way up high before heading straight out to sea at some speed. Next stop France, I guess?

At Brands Bay late afternoon yesterday there were 11 Black-Necked Grebes, Slav Grebe, GN Diver, 2 Sandwich Terns (wintering?) and all the commoner bits.
