Downy or Hairy Woodpecker - Boise, Idaho (1 Viewer)

Woodpecker seen in backyard last June in Boise, Idaho.

My first thought is Hairy since there aren't black spots on the outer tail feathers. But I realize that's not always a fool-proof clue. The bill also appears to be almost the same length as the head, but I don't have enough experience to know for sure.

Downy because of bill size, also the red on the back of the head on a hairy is split while in your pics its not.

In photos of this quality (no offence), I wouldn't trust any features apart from bill-length - hence downy woodpecker.
