I had a good birding day today, which was my first day intentionally birding in ages (see my first eBird checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S193474763).
The one bird that had me stumped, though, is what I think is a Hairy Woodpecker, except for the dark spots on the outer tail feathers. Sibley's tells me that Hairy Woodpeckers only "usually" have unmarked outer tail feathers, but is there any way to pin this one down for sure? The black bar going all the way down the back of the nape and the bill length make me think Hairy. There was also another Hairy Woodpecker near it (see the last picture, for reference).
EDIT: Actually, I'm starting to doubt my ID of the second one (the one in the last photo). Now that I'm looking at the bill length of these two again, they don't scream Hairy Woodpecker to me (plus Downy Woodpeckers are way more common in this area according to eBird). Could I get a confirmation of both, if its possible?
