Loved the report Pam it makes up for us not going to D & G this year, we have just got back from Delias part of Scotland [and throughly enjoyed that]. Been to all the locations apart from the Mull of Galloway [we did do Portpatrick but I just wanted to get out of the place asap as there was some strange smell that was making me ill..don't know if it was seaweed or rotting fish]. Last time we did Wood of Cree [which we love] as we arrived the heavens opened and it just carried on and was so bad even hailstones came down] so this visit was cut short before it even started. Loch Ken is my favourite spot and we have never been disapointed by the large variety of birds [and even the Red Squirrel] ...last year the farmer was ploughing the field alongside and there was at least 15 Red Kite following him so really close views. One place you have not mentioned is Loch Ryan [Stranraer] even at the begining there is a good selection of sea birds and driving about 2 miles down the side of it there is a car park which you can take walks along the area. A further couple of miles is Kirkcolm where there is a Pub/Hotel called The Blue Peter. WE met the owners of it when we were in Wigtown Bay last year and they are very keen birders and gave us some good birding locations. We normally stay in Castle Douglas in a self catering apartment that is on the Threave estate [ so are just over the road from the Castle and the birding walks around the woods]. Here is the details should you want to check it out, they do 3,4 and weekly breaks. http://www.theoldexchange.com/index.html
