Born to seawatch...
Adult Laughing Gull was seen at Whitburn (by Wellands farm) at 15.10 today by Paul Cook. It flew off to the coast, but wasn't found in the Trow Rocks gull roost.
So there's at least 2 Laughers at large somewhere in the county....

5 definate, possibly more Short Eared Owls at Rainton Meadows @ 7:30 this evening.

1 hunting on top of the hill.

2 interacting over the path to Joes Pond

2 calling to each other from trees near electricity sub-station past Joes Pond.

Invested in a 1,000,000 candle power torch, great for scanning for Owls. Got great views of the Seo on top of the hill as it swooped for its prey.

Pintail and Water Rail seen at Low Barns last weekend (not by me).

The Water Rail was seen in front of the North Hide (first record that I've heard of, for at least three years). Hope to take a look soon.

I didn't make the Kite bash today through some bug laying me low the last couple of days.

By mid morning I felt a good deal better so I had a wander over to Cowpen Bewley Woodland Park.

In the feeding station -
Treesparrow
Yellowhammer
Great Tit
Blue Tit
Great Spotted Woodpeacker
Chaffinch
Greenfinch.

The walk back home yielded a few more interesting species -
Woodcock x1
Redshank x3
Teal x5
Sparrowhawk x1
Kestrel x1
Goldcrest x7
Long-tailed Tit x15
Goldfinch x15
Lesser Redpoll x12
Siskin x3

Proud Smoggie
Received my new camera and lens yesterday so I thought I would try and catch up with the Waxwings and try the new equipment out.
Managed to find 20+ near the Calor gas site but they were very flighty, I then caught up with them towards Salthome so got some pics.
Called in at Cowpen Bewley for a look at the feeding station (see IanF post for species) 5 Repoll seen around the pond

Great shooting Paul. Looks like you've taken to the new equipment better than me!

I'd say you got to the feeding station after I did - I recognise the peanuts and sunflower hearts!

Very little came close whilst I was there though two GSW's paid a fleeting visit.

May well see you over there then, as the better half will be dropping me off before going on to work as i am unable to drive once again due to the recurring hand injury sustained june of this year.
