Great Northern Diver

I managed to steal a couple of hours yesterday to go to Hartlepool to see the Great Northern Diver. It was very active feeding, and was swimming up to 100 yards underwater which made it difficult to guess where it was going to come up, it also swam under the pontoons and boats, which I haven`t seen other divers do. At one point it was looking up to the sky and gave its wonderful plaintive call, something I have not heard before in the wild (or wilds of Hartlepool).

Hartlepool Marina - Black-throated Diver, Great Northern Diver, RB Merganser x8, Shag x2, Little Grebe.

Possibly GN Diver x2 plus the BT Diver in the marina. I thought I'd seen two GN Diver this morning but figured I was mistaken when the BT Diver turned up. However others also saw three Divers after I left.

Also reported there two Med Gulls one with a lettered darvic.

Marsh Harrier seen by others at RSPB Saltholme at Haverton plus Waxwing x16 back by Wildlife Watchpoint.

Hartlepool Marina:
2 G.N Divers, 1 B.T Diver which flew off twice then reapeared before we left, also megansers, cormorants and couple of shags.
Seaton Common:
Bar tailed godwits, off course, the one I decided to photograph only had one foot, + redshank, oyster catchers and single greenshank on the golf course. Plenty of the usual teal, wigeon, curlew, lapwing etc over the rest of the common.
Saltholme:
Quick look, before the rain, only single kestrel and about 14 waxwing in the tree next to the workshops.

Very likely the same young Kes as DCJ photographed the other day - this time with a bit of sun on him. The highlight was him swooping down from his perch and hovering within 15 feet of me - so close i couldn't find him in the camera view finder - what a star performer :t::t:
