Durham Birding (3 Viewers)

Cowpen Bewley

Plenty common birds around the car park area, also half dozen shoveler on the main pond, amongst the usual cormorants, gulls pochard etc, but no sign of any golden eye.
2 kingfisher seen while walking near the river and little egret from nearby field, which was flushed by a dog.

I noticed a couple of Magpies today making a hell of a racket in the low trees opposite where I live. They had taken exception to a Buzzard which had perched on a fence post underneath them. This went on for a couple of minutes before the Buzzard flew off slowly making me think he couldn't have cared less about the magpies:

Lovely Little Owl seen on a short stop over before picking up my granddaughter from the fun shack :-O

Hartlepool Headland

Few shots taken today round the headland, not much about other than a good sized flock of knot.
No sign of the Shore Larks while I was there.

I took a trip down to Rainton Meadows today.
It was very crunchy snow and interesting to cycle on. I felt sorry for the birds, although all the resident species seem to be staying put.

Picture: a few Teal and Wigeon in the hole in the ice on Lake 2.

Shore Lark - Hartlepool

Finally managed a few record shots today of one of the shore larks, We searched for it and was just about to leave the area when a local fisherman pointed it out on the rubble just North of the graveyard.

Also managed a short video clip.

Nice photos Ray. I saw it today, about 3.00 pm for a while just where you said, by the rubble mound, 30 yards from cemetery wall, and not on the beach north of the pier as had been reported on RBA, perhaps it's moving around. Tricky to spot on that rubble if it's not moving !

Called at Far Pastures today for an hour.
Couple of distant buzzards and Kites, GS Woodpecker, 3 kestrel and the usual birds in the car park area. Not much at all from the hide, but a few snipe about + distant jack snipe.
Image one, shows the jack snipe to the right of the common.

Short video of the snipe.

Nice spot on the Jack Snipe and I particularly like the nuthatch shot, Ray.

Also to let people know that a Little Grebe has been fishing for several days now in the river near Bath's bridge in Durham city. Seems to have found its favourite spot!

Hartlepool Fish Quay

Cheers James.

Caught up with the Glaucous gull today at the Fish Quay, other than that, not much about. Also didn't see anything of the shore lark while we were round the cemetery area.

Short video of the Glaucous.
