Durham Birding (5 Viewers)

Is a black-bellied brent goose a subspecies or a totally separate one then?
Either way an attractive bird and your pictures definitely show off its good looks! |=)|

Wowee. You must have had great views. Top job with the photos :t:

I took a trip to Hetton Bogs LNR today (which is actually Sunderland, sorry), where I met with this very trusting Grey Wag.

Cracking shots, was very surprised that according to the Breeding Birds Atlas none of these can be found on the North Yorkshire Moors and I've only seen a pair flying overhead one morning over 20 years ago whilst camping on the moors and never seen any since despite spending nearly all spring and summer up there nest recording.

Few shots from Rowland's Gill area today.

All though these were taken in CO Durham it just goes to show you can't believe everything you read! There can't be that much difference between N. Yorkshire and Durham Moorland Just a matter of being in the right place at the right time

dead bird

hi everybody , ive been a regular reader off this forum and find it very interesting but never joined till today , the reason for joining is ive just had a reed bunting fly into the window and unfortunately its died , it seems a waste to put this bird in the bin as its in pristine condition , is there anyone around the durham area who people are aware that would like the bird for taxidermy purposes ? thanks

Sorry for posting twice today.
I took a trip down to Rainton Meadows. It was the first time in weeks the place wasn't very quiet. Although Pond 3 still is a quarter frozen.

Goosander, Grey Heron, Jay, Wigeon, Teal, Shelduck, Greylag, Lapwing, Canadas + all the usual on the feeding station.

I took a walk along the river near Shincliffe Hall during lunch today. I didn't see the Dipper mentioned in the Dippers thread, but I did see a flock of Fieldfare, a Little Grebe and there were Great Tits, Blue Tits, Robins, Blackbirds and Pheasants singing almost constantly.
The weather was lovely, it was a shame that the birds were relatively distant for photos.
