Cheers JBee, It becomes even more difficult when they're not in pristine condition.

1 Antler Moth
2 Shuttle Shaped Dart
I took them in a Butterfly House at the Norfolk Bird of Prey Centre last year oWhere did you take those pics of the Giant Atlas Moths i have seen them in butterfly farms before.
I had a Poplar Hawkmoth in the trap few weeks ago they are impressive moths. If you are ever down in Dorset there's a big butterfly farm called Worldwide butterflies it's worth a visit. It has live stock for sale, netting cages and has huge glasshouses with hundreds of butterflies flying around.I took them in a Butterfly House at the Norfolk Bird of Prey Centre last year o.
The Biggest I've seen wild was a Poplar Hawkmoth in the garden in May and an Elephant Hawkmoth in Caerlaverock a couple of years ago.
Thought i would post a few pics of a male Emperor Gum Silkmoth which emerged from its cocoon yesterday afternoon.I am hoping to rear some.

Thicko question comming with Moths.Thought i would post a few pics of a male Emperor Gum Silkmoth which emerged from its cocoon yesterday afternoon.I am hoping to rear some.
Hi Steve i sent away for 3 Emperor Gum moth cocoons from a specialist dealer who has UK and Worldwide moth, butterfly eggs, caterpillars pupa and cocoons for sale. The main place in the UK for breeding and selling livestock of moths and butterflies is called Worldwide butterflies base in Dorset. As i mentioned at the start of the thread i used to breed a number of different butterflies and moths years ago.Infact i was more interested in them than birds at the time. But after a while the birding bug took over. It's just in the last two years or so that i have become very interested in butterflies and moths again and was only a few weeks ago that i decided i would start keeping them again and try and breed some. It's a fascinating watching the life cycle from egg to moth or butterfly.Years ago i used to search all over for caterpillars at different places such as Fulwell Quarry. When i found some i took them back home and kept them. Then when they had turned into butterflies and moths i went to the same place where i had found them as caterpillars and released back into the wild.I also kept some of the moths and butterflies for breeding.Thicko question comming with Moths.
So were did the Catterpillar come from in the first place Martin for you to watch its life cycle? ( I did,nt use the word rear).|:x|
And what happens to the moth after you have raised it?
Very interesting stuff on here, totally alien to me.
