Easter spot-billed duck?? Japan (1 Viewer)

Hello!
This is a photo of a supposed Eastern spot-billed duck that I took in Japan. It was taken in January.
This fella seems to have an extremely reddish face compared to a normal Eastern spot-billed duck. Also, its coverts don't have the distinct pale colour on the edges.
So I'm wondering if this is maybe just individual variability. Or maybe it's a hybrid?
Any comments are welcome. Thank you in advance :)

Rockfowl,

Thank you for the reply! I hadn't noticed anything about the beak, but now that you have pointed it out, it does seem rather short...

stevethehydra,

Thank you for replying! Philippine duck sounds very persuasive! The red face and the rather dark back resembles that, although the majority of the features seem to point out spot-billed.
There are many cases of various hybrids like spot-billed x mallard or northern pintail x spot-billed, but I've never heard of spot-billed x philippine. At least in Japan, philippine duck itself is a very rare species.
