Egg collector dies.. (1 Viewer)

I'm all for making flippant comments (I do little else, normally) but this is a Forum open to non-members, where people are making light of the death of a human being because it might save a few eggs. Get a sense of proportion, people.

3 guests are viewing the thread as I write - what sort of @rse-holes do you think we're coming across as to an outside observer?

And, as mentioned by previous posters, I hope to God it's not the poor relatives of this guy.

Sorry Rasmus - can't agree. I'm of the 'chop his hands off' for mugging/stealing and chop off other bits for rape etc..

Sandra, the lex talionis of king Hammurabi is out of date for about 3000 years ...
Poor man, falling off a tree and killing himself. Being an egg collector certainly doesn't make any difference here ...
Lock him up for a few years alright, but death penalty is not the answer.

Yes the world is full of ####### but dancing over a mans grave makes you no better then them...

My condolence as well to his friends and family,

Take care and stay safe,

Dimitris

these threads always end up in fisty cuffs

in no time at all we divided ourselves into two opposing sides arguing over
whether the bloke deserved to die in the manner he did while in the act of commiting a wildlife crime.

not sure what the penalty is for stealing eggs but pretty sure it's not falling to your death from a great height,i'm not defending the guy for what he did
nor am i flaming any previous opinions,it's just plain bloody bad luck.

his egg collecting aside he may even have been a pleasant enough fellow!

though i expect to get flamed to hell and back for that remark :gn:

matt (just for the record i did sleep well last night)

this is stupid,

if the guy was up a tree collecting eggs then what happened was unfortunate for him and his family (though not the birds), and I'd say 'occupational hazzard', if he was up the tree for some other reason at 63years old then he ought to have had a little more sense ...

despite the comments in here I don't think anyone would want anyone dead, let's all get off our high horses huh ..

I imagine the blokes relatives have more important issues to consider than looking at this thread

Whose to say this guy had'nt reformed and become a birdwatcher.
He may have been a member of this forum and may have a child or grandchild who is into birdwatching and reads the threads.
I hope I am wrong ,but we just dont know.

Paul

Reminds me of the thread a while back about the couple who got done for feeding the birds. You get people jumping in too quickly without thinking it through, then a couple of rational members will post and turns things on its head.

If he was a bird watcher what was he doing up a tree, most people prefer to do that on the ground. We don't know what nest he was visiting but if it was a protected species then thats another reason he shouldn't have been up the tree

Egg Collector dies!

I agree my sympathies are with his family.....for all we know the lad could have been a bit 'Cuckoo' and was in fact placing an egg in a nest!!! He probably fell as he'd forgotten how he'd 'scrambled' up the tree in the first place, yes!! I'm sure by time he hit the ground he was well cracked....

And before I'm taken out to be shot at dawn, I do feel sorry for the guy and whoever he's left behind..I'm sure the majority when it came down to it wouldn't wish this tragic event on anyone who steals eggs!!! But it is Friday and ye gorra have a lafff.......

I'm *never* going to understand how anybody can feel joy/pleasure/happiness over the death of another human being (and admittedly, find it a tad sickening) - regardless if the death occurred while doing something as utterly stupid as collecting eggs. So, my condolence to his family & friends.[/QUOTE]

While it is sad that anyone should die by untimely death, I'm afraid I can't conjure up any sympathy for this man. If you knew of him you would know the untold amount of damage he has caused over many years to wild birds, many of Schedule One protected species. I have had the displeasure to come face to face with him on Drumochter Summits in the Scottish Highlands, he was working together with another unknown man, quartering the hill for Dotterels. Knowing who he was we confronted him about what he was up to, he became very abusive and threatened us with violence if we didn't mind our own busines!! We left the area and reported him to the Police and the RSPB when we came off the hill, we didn't hear what the outcome was. This man has been apprehended and fined many times in his career as an egg thief.

so, in all probability it was an 'occupational hazzard' ~ a bit like when joyriders steal cars and wipe themselves out ... all pretty stupid eh ... well, if he was up to no good (and that would be my own suspicion) then not only is the act of egg stealing repulsive but endangering himself in such a way and, presumably, leaving behind a family is equally so ...

What a load of sentimental tripe, as far as I'm concerned he got what was coming to him. As for everybody being somebody's son, apart from stating the bl**ding obvious, what does that mean?

Im not defending what this guy did in his past. I just think it is wrong to openly celerbrate his death on an open forum.

from a different angle

who here would not have rushed to the scene and called for an ambulance?

i'm quite sure every one here would have done so regardless of their stance on the crime, punishment, penalty of wildlife crime.

not sure how the deceased family would feel about a few dozen complete
strangers discussing the mans last moments of life and how much debate it has caused on an international birdwatching forum.
