Found this egg on it’s own on the ground at the edge of a field next to a small group of trees.

Really quite small as you can see in the pictures and more round in shape than most other eggs. 27mm x 20mm in size.

Any thoughts?

Pheasants lay their eggs anywhere when they get caught short! But it may be a bit small for that. Partridge of some sort?

I often am confused about the forum's rules on posting photos of eggs and nests, Butty.

I think the forum rules are designed to discourage the photography, and therefore the disturbance of an active nesting site, especially if details of location are given in regard to rarer or more endangered birds.
