Especially if national enforcement agencies actually do their jobs.....

There are good news stories everywhere but they are small victories. A culture change is the hardest thing and will take generations.

Hunters here were allowed out even during the strictest lockdown because they were doing a public service - that really got my goat! Look at the Malta video, these people, those in SW France and Italy (and I'm sure elsewhere too) actually put their bodies on the line and are under threat of physical violence. Bit like the hunt sabs in the uk they are seen as the radicals or hippies rather than merely pointing out the law...

Unfortunately, it's not worked here in Cyprus thanks to the Government reducing on-the-spot fines from 2,000 euros to 200!

Hopefully this new EU law might help reverse the increase of lime / glue sticks in Cyprus but it will always be difficult to completely eradicate this practice as many influential Cypriots still view the "delicacy" as a very important part of the island's heritage and culture. A reduction of EU support and huge sums of annual monies towards projects may persuade them if the paltry fines fail to deter those individuals prosecuted.
