Eyebrowed Thrush in Norolk (1 Viewer)

Ah, but are we sure it was a hoax? As I've said earlier lets see if the record of the thrush is submitted.

Oh Richard, jeez, IT'S A HOAX!!!!

I will happily bet you £500 that in the 2011 BBRC report there is not an accepted Eyebrowed Thrush from Hunstanton this month.

Otherwise, as has been said, time to kill this thread...

With all due respect, that does not ascertain if a bird was a hoax or not.

Although I agree this one probably is.

Bird, bird, bird...
Funny how no more photos materialised and that Mr Smith was a bit vague to say the least about what golf course it was seen on, plus about the mythical Birdwatchers that saw it there.

Anyone heard of a birdwatcher in Lincs called Till Smith? Is Till even a name, and Smith is probably the most common surname in this country to think up.

I'm happy to proved wrong, he kept saying this is not a hoax, but would not give any upto date or fresh evidence to support his so called EB Thrush.

Please moderators just close the thread, it's really getting on my Long tailed Tits....

Can't see any reason why moderators should close threads because they're a bit annoying. It would be a very dangerous precedent and shrink BF enormously...

A previous (photographic) hoax, not very long ago, was exposed as such by some some brilliant detective work by BFers. That was by a chap called Joe Pell. I imagine he was very annoyed to be found out. Oh, and he lives in Lincolnshire...

Some people still believe that Darwin was wrong, the earth is flat and in flying saucers!! This bird was a hoax. Move on to real birds please.

See the Lothian thread for query about a Forster's Tern which was hoaxed this week.......interesting where the question about it came from though, the lack of reply to my request for further info and the same person on this thread then suggesting there have been a lot of them recently.....a link perhaps?

I'm sure the more people go on for pages on here about possible hoaxes and complaining that they're not being told where something is when its clear that's not going to change will only encourage more hoaxes from wind-up merchants. I'm sure people are either bored and think they have something to add, or are desperate for something which isn't going to happen, but really there no point extending a Rare Bird Info thread beyond "where is it", and if no such information is forthcoming, it's best to just leave it to die a quiet death

Why when these hoaxes happen is there only ever one photo,i mean surely you could fire off at least a couple whilst the bird was perched on a branch..must be a clue in itself, doesnt take away what great birds Eye-broweds are though, remember being on Scilly in 1991 watching an Issy shrike when the call went up and one came in with a flock of redwings, great being in the general area when one was found..

Why can't a Junk Mail section be formed? If a thread gets rumbled, surely it could be simple for a mod to move it into a Junk folder. Or move it to an an unconfirmed thread folder.

When people are loosing their jobs all around us, rising motorists costs and the prospect of motorists paying an 02 tax in the near future. I don't think we need these sort of people making us chase up and down England, Scotland, Wales & Ireland (don't remember hearing about any Irish hoaxes, thank the lord) for birds photgraphed in Countries that are simply thousands of miles away from us.

I love Birdforum and its a very valuable communication tool for the modern premiership birder. The Veery thread has enabled 104+ people connect over a five day period with a Charter boat. It's certainly made me think, if I'm tackling the Western Isles etc the best way.

As a mere Conference (north) birder, I hope you'll excuse my temerity for answering your post.
I really don't think you should accuse hoaxers (or anyone else) of making you "chase up and down".

No he doesn't have to chase the birds, but he raises a good point. How about an obvious unconfirmed marker next to any rare bird threads that have only the original poster as witness ?

Im Blue Square south

I think I got relegated from that league ;-)

Like all hobbies, you have to make decisions based on your situation and I guess I'll never really understand the logic in feeling compelled at all expense to compete with anyone other than myself but each to their own.

In terms of hoax for the pleasure of wind-up or attention seeking, this thread (which I'm just adding to !) is just fueling the fire of whoever gets off on this stuff.
