Favourite Yorkshire birding spots - share yours (1 Viewer)

Hi there everyone.
As someone relatively new to birding, I'm always looking to expand my choice of spots to visit in pursuit of spotting wildlife.
Other than RSPB reserves around Yorkshire, where do you go for some good action?
Let’s face it; all the birdlife doesn’t just hang out at the RSPB reserves!
I'm based on the Wakefield / Huddersfield border, but will travel anywhere in God's own county. I can take my passport if you think I need to venture further :eek!:

Try
Strid Woods in May, early morning to catch the dawn chorus.
Wykeham raptor watchpoint, put in the hours and you might just get lucky
Filey Brigg/Bay and Dams

Spurn is amazing during migration periods and a September or October day in easterlies can't be beaten.

Lower derwent valley - pretty much the area south of york, includes reserves of Wheldrake Ings, Bank Island, Skipwith Common and Duffield Carrs - and all the designated land inbetween along the river.

I visit c30 different East Yorkshire venues per year with my classes, which is good for variety, but my favourite probably changes depending on the time of year. Spurn can be brilliant in late August through to late October, but I wouldn't visit in Jan or Feb.
