Hi all,

This was my first visit - thanks to the guy in the Waterrail hide at the Autumn All-dayer yesterday at UW for suggesting a visit!

Amazing light helped a great visit; kingfishers, hobby (Keith I think the second bird was a sparrowhawk - See pic! Or do you think it is a buzzard In the pic!
The two birds together one was not a buzzard - I just thought one was a little two pale for a second hobby?

Some great sightings of read warblers and dragonflies. We will definitely be back!

Hi Julie....I have seen your name on the forums for quite a long time...great to meet you...yes it is a Buzzard in the tree ...theres a local pair and I had 6 at once the other week.....
I am thinking the other "Hobby" is the Kestrel but not got my terrible snaps on to computer yet...glad you had the Kingfisher again...it looks like an even younger Female from the one I had yesterday....

Hope you can visit again and keep us all informed of the goings on here.

Hi Keith

Saw the Hobby over the field when I was by the Dragon pond and then when in the hide...presume there was just the one.

We in the hide had a treat when the Hobby came from nowhere and flew straight at the hide at our head height ...a definite WOW moment....it must have been going at least 500 MPH....LOL

Kingfisher female showed for 1 or 2 minutes around 11.30....hope it turned up again for the people who were there after me.

Little Grebe obliging with close fishing and the Female Kestrel came but not too close.....had a spat with another high flyer but not sure what it is yet...have to see if I can I.D. when on PC.

Lots of Migrant Hawker Males and Common or Ruddy Darters pairing up and ovipositing.

A nice quiet hide now I have gone...LOL

2-4pm...No Kingfisher
Kestrel
4/5 Buzzard
1 Mallard
1 Moorhen
Little Grebe
3 swim passes from Grass Snakes...could have be 1,2 or 3 individuals...

2 Hobby
Female Kestrel
Buzzard
Little Grebe
Morehen
Crow
Rook

Awesome Ariel displays from the Hobbies...chasing everything that flew around...and twice flew through pool area ...one time just feet from hide...could see glint in the eye..lol.
One dive down and across would have rivaled a Peregrine...

Hi Keith,

We are looking to go this evening - if the forecast is correct and this rain stops!

Do you ever see barn owls? If so what is the best chance?

Thanks Julie

in all the years I drove to work early in the morning I've only seen a Barn Owl once it was just outside Feckenham just before the bad bend before the old red lion pub.
Just looked it up 6th April last year
