
The field book is significantly lighter than the full version of the Ridgely version. I think it is slightly lighter than the plates alone.
I much preferred the fieldbook for bringing with me, the Ridgely plates stayed in the suitcase, and when used at all, it was in the room. Looking at all those species without any information about which were likely where I was would have been too confusing, and that is the situation I would have been in with only the Ridgely plates.

Edit: if I had been in an area with a lot of very similar tyrant flycatchers it might have been different. That is why I in the previous post mentioned Amazonian Ecuador as possibly a difference maker.
