i suspected syrian from the beginning because of its "habitat", a poplar. in romania they live a lot in the poplar rows along roads ('avenues'?), even in zones of intensive agriculture in the plains. and of course in the villages. nice piccies, ody.

Juvenile starling is good.
Only other guess would be nutcracker but i don't think you get them all too often round your parts.
