Flamborough Head bay brambles, 20.09.21 ID help (1 Viewer)

I believe it’s being reported as barred warbler?
or a barred warbler being reported in bay brambles…I don’t know if that was taken from this thread.
A Barred Warbler has been present in Bay Brambles.
Somebody took some pictures,in Bay Brambles, of a bird that doesn't really look like a Barred Warbler.
I don't think the two are connected.

Hello,
thank you for the videos. After seeing them, I was puzzled like Rotherbirder and Andy Adcock, and couldnt find the reason. Might well be that I am bisaed by the pictures that looked like a Garden or possibly a Barred Warbler to me. And I was quite sure that the bird seemed to pick up berries. Yes Chiffchaff does this, too (infrequent or rare?). But this distracted me from a Chiffchaff-jizz. I didnt noticed it at first, it was just a gut-feeling. And strange, after another look I failed to see it in the videos.
After reading the answer Steve, I first thought, that was the answer, but the puzzling/strange feeling hasnt gone. Reason?
  • bird looks too potbellied for a Chiffchaff
  • yes, tail seems slightly notched, but it looks slightly too broad/full in some frames, and there seems be whitish outer tail feathers. But this highlights one problem very good imo: what is real and what is artefact/single picture effect. The whitish outer tail feathers seems well artefacts sometimes.
  • same with legs: are they too stout/strong for a Chiffchaff? After seeing the videos again I am not sure anymore
  • and more? Sorry, bedtime now ....
I hope for more comments, pictures and videos!

For clarity I'm only referring to the bird in the video clips in posts 17 and 18. The other pics may all be of the same bird and I admit some do look a little odd, but I can only see a Chiffchaff in the videos. The way it moves and tail pumps is classic Chiffchaff behaviour imo.

it behaves like a chiffchaff but it definitely does not look like one. apart from general colour, head pattern and proportions are that of a Sylvia warbler. Undertail coverts look unbarred (just a slight central stripe which can be seen in borin) and coverts and tertials seem to lack white tips. primary projection looks long. to me it still looks like a Garden Warbler.

Edited for clarification:

Two-bird theory here.
Agree the bird in the latest pic and vid (post 28) is a GW.
Agree the bird in the vid which Steve refers to, looks like a Chiff.

This is getting very messy, but i think we're agreed that there seems to be no images of the Barred which was present.

On reflection, and after looking at it on my laptop screen, I agree with Garden Warbler.

A big thank you to all interested. Especially Alexander who was very factual and pointed me in the right direction. Big thanks to Thomas and Helen who spent time over several days getting the birds features.
When I got home I was able to transfer a video and pics taken on a Canon Powershot SX710HS Camera. I will post video and pics. Thom and Helen were very determined to help and Thom confirmed he saw a brown Iris, pale feather fringes and pink bill base.
I saw pale fringes, pink bill base with whole bill looking pink in some pics. I noted lateral crown stripes and eventually saw the bird raise it's crest which was a slightly darker colour. I saw a thin white edge to the tail sides.
I think we saw enough to confirm first Autumn Barred Warbler.
I have seen a male Barred Warbler in breeding plumage abroad but had no experience in this plumage.
