Regarding the older photos of supposed SBE & LE I posted, several of us birders saw the birds and there was also a size difference the time we saw two on the same day (LE is supposed to be slightly smaller) - photos probably don't justify the calls we made but the two birds (SBE and LE) were distinctly different. As to this current bird - I was just using the key and Niels suggestion to check other elaenia species that could be vagrants - if you use likelihood I agree it's probably LE or SBE. Despite the key described I found in looking at actual images it was pretty similar to the GE and PE also - neither actually are green but yellow & gray o:D And yes I (and 3 other birders) heard SBE vocalise once (in response to playback of its call). I've tried several calls with the LE but it has never vocalised - it has as I said responded to the local ferruginous pygmy owl call by showing itself in the 3-4 cases I have seen a probably/possible LE (which leads me to think it is the species that is resident as it knows the call well). The SBE we have encountered tend to only react to their wn call and not the owl call (from my limited experince of seeing supposed SBE about 3 times). To confuse matters in Trinidad even more I saw another elaenia in the same spot I saw this one (photos attached) - it appears to be a different (3rd) bird from the one RKA started a thread about and this, and it may be an actual LE. I don't think it's this bird - looks different but I welcome any comments. I also attached pics of a juvenile YBE I saw which i think is clearly different (opinion again). This bird has much more gray on the throat, chest and belly vs the YBE which has more yellow higher up the body..also the eye ring is distinct and it had no crest. Bare with me - I am only birdwatching for about 2 years now!
