France - Larus fuscus or argentatus ? (1 Viewer)

Hello,

I observed this gull the 5th of August at Dunkerque in France. I hesitate between a Larus fuscus and Larus argentatus, can you help me please ?

Could you tell me if it exists a character that will allow me to differentiate them in the future ?
 
structure: long and narrow wings in LBBG with a very long primary projection in the sitting bird - short and broad wings in herring gull; but this needs a bit of experience.
'window': inner primaries, as seen in your bird usually are completely pale in herring gull, dark or just a bit paler than outer primaries in LBBG.
bill on average weaker in LBBG but careful with sexual differences: males have stronger bills than females in all large gull taxa.
