This is obviously a backward step in many ways and must have repercussions throughout other EU countries such as Italy and Cyprus where efforts to ban and prosecute hunters using this method have been met with a high level of resistance also citing traditional culture. Makes a mockery of EU directives and conservation policies does it not.

Sadly the hunters have far more sway than the 'wildlife' groups. This is the case world wide and isn't just a French (although Macron got it suspended for a year) or EU problem! What did the UK 'driven shooting' petition achieve in the UK parliament? Embarrassment! If you didn't watch the debate then do - it will give you an understanding of how these topics are viewed in the upper echelons.
