Hello everyone,

I have a question regarding woodpeckers. I’ve been feeding them a little while now and I was just wondering how often you are likely to see them at your feeders. I see the downy’s every day, but the hairy and red bellie only every so often. I know the downy’s are more common but just wonder if woodpeckers visit your feeders every day or just every so often. Any help with this would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Luke

In my experience, visit frequency is directly related to temperature. The lower the temperature goes, the more high energy food birds require, in particular fat.
