Friends of Red Kites - in the North East of England (1 Viewer)

You obviously had a really good session. The light was good and the kites were very active. All saved to your folder.:t:

June really good session for once the sun was kind. The only disappointment was that I had been told there was a roost in the area so I had gone to check it out. As you can see there were a couple of Birds around but sadly non of them roosted. May check the area again soon

Nine Arches Roost

Estimated 45 to 50 Kites seen coming into roost today at the Nine Arches Viaduct. 39 Kites seen in the sky at the same time a brilliant experience. Couple of pictures taken there.

Excellent Pictures Tony

Awful lighting conditions today meant the sky was completely washed out which has spoilt a couple of otherwise decent pictures

Soon be the breeding season June, think the birds are singing a lot earlier this year, already seen a Blackbird with a mouthful of worms but couldn't watch it back to its nest has I had my granddaughter with me and it was on a housing estate and the funniest thing about it was last year it was the same location I had seen proof of breeding and it was a Blackbird again, lol. Sorry went off subject there, just get very excited at the arrival of spring.
I'll soon be up there, a couple of friends and fellow BTO volunteers (NRS) ate coming along, so no.problem with transport. :)

Thanks

Damian

Thanks again Damian keep them coming :t:

No problems pal, any sightings in this area will be reported on here, also need to PM you about the location of a nest site, only found out last week, apparently been there for a least 2 years and you will be very surprised at location
;)

I don't see much wrong with those, the conditions are what they are and you've done well. The first looks like it has a transmitter on it's back.

I actually watched a Carrion Crow building a nest in the first week of January last year, it soon stopped once the weather changed for the worst. I also seem to remember a Blackbird nesting in a Christmas Tree last year making the local TV news. Here it is http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-tyne-25960351

Guys there's a thread on here named "Kite Sightings" by Frankiex, bird in the area told him to report it on here guys

Also been busy and just about to get in bed, doing homework for the upcoming season, maps, books, location details all over lol
Be intouch when this weary head wakes up and that wont be long once the granddaughter and kids are up
(with nest site location)

Damian :(
