Just a couple of chancers today Mark - but Masterminded has burnt a lot of fingers today - big time!
I promise to study a bit in the morning, if I'm allowed . . . . .

Cheers Tim, I've been watching.... whilst trying to figure out how to make a lifesize Spoon-billed Sandpiper, trying to work on bills and horse racing sometimes conflict :eek!:

Good luck with the sculpting - look forward to seeing that completed.

Get On!!

A very interesting card today; three races look quite solvable, if one has the inclination . . . .
2:05 – Pertemps Final
A field of 24 runners; my four against the field all such ood value that I’d be tempted to split a tenner into 4 each way bets, which are;
Cross Kennon @ 25/1, Prince Erik @ 16/1, Fredo @ 22/1 and Palypso De Creek @ 33/1
My selection for straight win would be Fredo B :)

2:40 – RyanAir Chase
Hotpot from the Nicholls stable has to be respected, but three to seriously consider are;
Planet of Sound @ 12/1, Jack The Giant (absolute outsider) @ 33/1 and Tranquil Sea @ 4/1.
Take Tranquil Sea to win and Planet of Sound each way.

3:20 – The World Hurdle
There are quite simply only two opinions on this race; does Big Buck’s win – or doesn’t he? Genuine 3-mile Hurdlers are few and far between and as winner of this twice before, BB is nailed on to make the hat-trick. If you can afford to take the ½ odds, you’ve simply got more money than sense.
I’m a value and somewhat nostalgic man. Value is Tidal Bay @ 7/1 and for the softer amongst us, War of Attrition @ 40/1. I’d take the each way on the old boy and back Tidal Bay to win – which he will, if BB doesn’t.

Without prejudice ;)

I like the look and name of Tranquil Sea , so I've gone for that, bottling on the World Hurdle though, Big Bucks bit too strong so E/W on Tidal Bay.

Ker-ching!!!!!
4 selections each-way - second place and fourth place for Prince Erik @ 16/1 and Cross Kennon also @ 16/1 - quarter odds that's x2 4/1 winners in the same race!!

Good luck Mark - hope you remember to breathe steadily.

when all this madness started I thought it was a soccer team, now that it's straight, and I looked it up, does anyone have a good live tv link that works in the US? It must be one of the most exciting things in the world to be there and see it live.....way more than a racetrack event with all the jumps.

Just to change the subject back to birds, I saw my first spring Kestrel yesterday. Lovely flight he had, too--not sure if he won, but lovely just the same.

Cracking link, Nick - just love the artist formerly known as Mince on the prowl.
This thread has become a total shambles for which I absolutely make no apology! - in fact it will now dissolve into a thing of complete ridicule for the next several weeks - if it wasn't already!!!!

Colleen - here's ataste of what it's REALLY like at Cheltenham - every minute, of every day over the four Festival days:

And I had backed 'Hors La Loi' - in the pale blue who eventually came second.

And here's a wonderful old grey on the start of his reign at the Headquarters of jump-racing (sadly lost his life there too). Just watch him intimidate Intersky Falcon on the final bend - incredible . . .

Just time to state the obvious; Kauto Star wins the Gold Cup (3:20) - no provisos and no need for doubt. The only question is who follows him in and the bet is Cooldine @ 8/1 - should make a sweet straight forecast.

My source has picked up an interesting stable whisper for an animal in the last (5:15). The bet is 'Fighting Chance' - has been backed in from 33s to 14s yesterday. 'My man' doesn't like Seamus Durack getting the leg-up - but I do, so that's the mortgage paid off . . . . . .

I used to live in Kentucky where, no surprise, Derby Day was a big day. I never went to the Kentucky Derby though I did go once to the big horse sale at Keeneland near Lexington.

In any case Derby Day always coincided with the beginning of spring and the natural world just seemed to be explosively alive. Thus this abstract painting 'Derby Day, Derby Night.'

I thought of posting this yesterday but thought 'NO! That would turn the whole thread into a shambles, not to mention hijacking it as well.' But since Tim has said it's heading that way anyway............
