Hi fellow BF members,
Firstly i'll briefly explain the idea before giving details for those who wish to take part. The original idea came from several of my colleagues on the "Very busy at the bird feeder today!" thread and it involves watching all the birds that visit the garden during a one hour period. See that thread for more info.
Here are some guideline:-
Choose any one hour period on Sunday 5th Sept. As you know your own gardens try and pick an hour that will give you the most species.
We are following the format used by the RSPB garden birdwatch form for recording (http://www.rspb.org.uk/images/bgbw_s...cm9-234831.pdf) which can be downloaded and printed.
Record all species seen during the hour. Count the maximum number of each species seen together at one time. Racing Pigeons can be listed as Feral Pigeons.
Heard records can be used provided you clearly identify the species. If in doubt don't count. Likewise flyover records are acceptable but please state flyover when posting your results.
In your reply please include the following information -
Location (including country in not in UK)
Start and End time (local time not GMT)
List each species with the maximum count next to it, also indicationg if the birds were flying over and/or heard only where appropriate.
If you can identify it, then count it. This is meant to be fun so just enjoy it.
Thanks to all those on the "Very busy at the bird feeder today!" thread for their help and support. If this trial proves successful we may extend it further.
Good luck tomorrow!!
