A 2nd Reed Warbler in the garden this morning...and an unascribed Willow/Chaff....much to my chagrin...as the former would have made me a ''Septugenarian'' ;)

Can't add any bird sightings to either my Vilnius or Labanoras lists due to me being away for a month, but a treat on my return, getting home in the early hours on my second day back, a Pine Martin darting across the track, zipping out from my front hedge. New species for the Vilnius garden.

I'll never attract Pine Martin to my garden...unless they...(The corporation of London) introduce them...to predate the Grey Squirrels of the New World that have wrought havoc with our eco-system, but I have had Ring-necked Parakeet and Muntjac deer (S.E.Asia) that are..and will undoubtedly do the same!

Garden was a hive of activity this morning!...Grt/Blue and Coal Tits being accompanied by families of Green/Goldfinches....when a female Sprawk gatecrashed!..then all and sunder hit cover and sky! She left heavy winged and empty taloned...bouncing safely away into the blue went adult and three juv.Goldfinches until..from out of nowhere..a Hobby arrived, then four became three! The only upside to this sad tale, is that during the 'tinkling' pre-strike period I became a ''Septugenarian''...anything after this is a bonus.

79) Lesser Whitethroat. This equals my last years garden total but I nearly missed it, clearly a migrant. It stayed about half a minute and that was all............just happened to be in the garden at the right time.

How are you H? I've not been on BF much lately........too busy with some work, hardly get much time for birding these days. I know your hobby thread is good and I look in occasionally but no time to give it the attention it deserves.

A 5.15 am trip to the bathroom, revealed a movement in more ways than one! On return to the bedroom, I espied a young Willow Warbler interacting with a Blue Tit on the early morning... sun kissed tops of the garden's Holly/Ivy and Ash. This was followed by two ''martins'' winging South over the trees, supplemented by a show of three Blackcap and at least two Common Whitethroats in the Ivy hedge....then suddenly appearing atop of the Ash tree...bit of a surprise! (certainly scarce these days on passage) ..I called in my 7 year old grandson..it became his 98th life tick! (he's up at 6am most mornings) my 71st garden year tick...Spotted Flycatcher!...we live in hope.

cheers

A garden mega (for this part of the world, at least) - well I say garden - but actually we found it in the kitchen initially. Certainly a life tick for the garden, though, after I'd taken it out to creep away by the pond.

Not that it will count on this thread though............

Smooth newt.

112. Arctic skua

Rob

Doubt if I'll be getting that species..this year! Although many years ago (Aug)doing some pruning of a much cherished conifer, from out of a blue sky, I heard a ''tick-pew-tick-pew'' an alien call to my ears..looking up (very high..c5-600') I espied two light phase Arctic Skuas winging East, as they could undoubtedly see the coast!..c45-50 miles away!

Presumably an annual species for you Rob?
