We are even-Stephen again, Ken! Nothing new for me this week but I am still missing Sand Martin, which I usually pick up in the autumn.

Joanne...I also need Sand Martin! certainly don't get them annually. I'd have to scan the skies all day for them to be in with a chance. Think I'm in the last throes now, so anything else will certainly be a plus, considering I missed most of August!

Cheers

Make it three of us! Number 70 was a lesser whitethroat, a new species for the garden this morning. Unfortunately however I'm extremely unlikely to have any further additions after the 8th, as I'm only at home for little more than one week between then and the end of the year!

Good run of autumn bits and bobs moving through now - three Wheatears (highest ever autumn count on my land!), bunches of Whinchats, one late Corncrake, one lingering late Red-backed Shrike, one Lesser Spotted Eagle ...and, certainly early passage birds, three Coal Tits (an addition to the year list!)

121. Coal Tit

# Top news from my Vilnius garden - a male House Sparrow! Third record ever, he appeared this week amongst the flocks of Tree Sparrows, and pretty much at the same time three or four other sparrows appeared that look decidedly like this House Sparrow has been having a little fling with one of the Tree Sparrow lasses!

Moved into a new place just a couple of weeks ago so my list is unfortunately short, but I am excited to see it grow :)

3. Turkey Vulture

Feeling glum and numb (just left the dentist), I espied (not often seen from my abode)..a flock of House Martins, feeding quite high, and passing through....and amongst the flock I found (you know what's coming Joanne :) one with a breast-band!.....71.

Hummmm..............I'll have to hope for some rarities now.........or perhaps a passing Osprey which wouldn't be unknown.

For the third time today panic among the flocks: this morning a Hobby hunting House Martins; later a widespread shock that had everything from Siskins to Rooks in a whirl: but I couldn't detect the cause.
But now the Martins' panic had me at the window just in time to see a Peregrine at full tilt angling low over the opposite valley side.

Peregrine: it was only a matter of time.

This afternoon I just arrived home to hear a

Green sandpiper calling as it flew up the valley.

61 : Green sandpiper !!

Wow H! You are finding some good ones with this and the Mergansers. Seems like the new garden is every bit as good as the old one was.
