Bit late - but back on the 26th, heard a Nuthatch calling somewhere in town as I walked up the garden path.

19) Nuthatch

Saw the Black Redstart out the bderoom window again today.

No problem with the former....but never the latter!...the bde-room sounds bde-interesting, not a euphemism for something illegal I trust? ;)

Definitely a euphemism.

Surprise snow in my garden this morning , this is not often!

Snow on the ground in my garden this morning , this is not often .
Huge amount snow up on the mountains all ski places closed.
About 25 birds on patio several hanging on madly at the feeders admist the snow. This little one prefers the sunflower seeds I threw out , he right by the kitchen door on my ramp and wanted to come in , must have smelt the coffee!

Looks like you've got more snow in the Pyrenees than we have in the Alps, and we've got plenty!
Lesser spotted Woodpecker is definitely possible in your area Brenda, I looked on www.faune-aquitaine.org and found various sightings this winter in 64 and 65 Départements. I see there are already flocks of White Storks passing through (over Bayonne yesterday for example), that would be a good one for the Garden List!

26 Black redstart.
Had one here since early spring last year , always to the left side of the house and garden , never seen it from my kitchen glass doors . Thought it had gone but as I was much less in the garden in january probably just hadnt seen it .
The snow that covered the garden this morning is already melting and road out front looks clear .

Yes would be good to add one of those perhaps possible soon I will look out.
We have got more snow up on the Pyrenees this time and heard its causing a lot of difficulties, looks great from down here!
Thanks and interesting about LSWoodpecker , will look it up now.

Surprisingly! We woke up to a dusting of the "white stuff"(first this Winter)...which resulted in another flyover "camouflaged" Legret, female Bullfinch (5th sighting this year), Sprawk, and whilst waiting for the Bus (adjacent rd.), two extra-squawking RNP's!...a glance upwards revealed a male Gos casually meandering on high. A single LTail-Tit (not often they travel alone) and a Buzby being escorted out of area by two Magpies and a Corvid.

Three (new) garden ticks & a garden year tick for me amongst that lot!

Hopefully you'll connect with Long-tailed Tit, Magpie and Corvid one day H! ;) Anyway on the bright side, you'll probably cruise straight pass me later in the year.

20) Buzzard

Was getting out of the car (me, not the Buzzard); by quickly rushing around and standing just inside the gate could still see it sailing over. Of course I could go and set the scope up and add a few more things if I was so inclined (it's not that much of a slope though - we're on the edge of the hill) in the distant Carrick Roads adjacent to Falmouth because the path to the house is quite long and convoluted and quite some distance from the house, allowing a different aspect of the local area, hadn't really considered this aspect of its location before as it seems a bit sneaky, although strictly speaking it is still part of the property, although it would be even better if we could knock the next-door house down because then we could even see the sea itself (although there aren't any windows on that side, so we'd (or I'd - perhaps the girlfriend would help in the demolition work, but she probably wouldn't be that excited by distant specks passing by) have to lean out of the window to get any kind of views, which would be pretty cold, especially at this time of year and with the current cold snap we are having), and then we could perhaps entertain the prospect of such local specialities as Balearic Shearwater and skuas (in season), quite apart from the more ordinary seabirds to be expected from looking at the sea (although it would be even better to actually see them than just entertain the prospect of course).

Oh well.

Nothing sneaky there Dan, I remember when I lived at Selsey Bill, some of my best Garden ticks were possible only because I'd climbed up the kids' slide to be able to see the sea, which was otherwise not visible from the house (a bungalow) or garden. It's a serious business, garden listing, though demolishing the neighbours' property is a bit drastic.................;

Why are birds flying into /hitting against at my kitchen glass door this week ? Have snow in my garden since tuesday which is unusual where I live. This week several birds have hit the glass understandable when its snowing but also several times when its not , why ?

Do you have any dried flowers/other plants on your kitchen windowsill the birds think is vegetation?

Is there a window on the opposite side of the house and the birds think it is open space they can fly through?

There are a couple of threads on here about the causes and what you can do to stop it happening - no-one wants to start harming their birds.

In my 8 years here in the Alps it's something that I've noticed too, when there's snow lying there are definitely more bird collisions with the windows, thankfully usually non- fatal. I presumed it's some sort of dazzle effect.
Still minus 6° at 13h00 today and freezing fog decorating all the tree branches with an icing sugar-like coating. The male Hawfinch hasn't visited for a couple of days, but a female popped in this morning to eat some spilt sunflower seeds.
