Giant Mullein for ID (1 Viewer)

On 12 July 2022 I was in the ancient town of Kaiserswerth on the Rhine close to Düsseldorf. I saw this huge Mullein - more than 2 Metres tall. The bottom leaves are very large and the plant is not downy. Is there one particular sort that grows so tall? I've never before seen one so big. Can anyone help with the ID please?

Not sure what you mean by this. The photos show that it is very hairy.
Mulleins can be tricky, but looks ok for great mullein V. thapsus which commonly grows to (almost) that height.

Though it may well be V. thapsus I don't think we can see enough detail to be sure. Certainly around London V. phlomoides is quite widespread & there are plenty of other garden escapes/hybrids.

Many thanks together. I feared that that would be the result. I didn't want to tear such a magnificent plant apart to get at the details. Sometimes it's just better to leave them in peace and enjoy their presence.
