Goldcrest? (1 Viewer)

I took these record shots a couple of weeks ago. I had identified Goldcrests in my local wood but is this a male Goldcrest or a Firecrest the colours are as seen. Pictures are taken in Cheshire. Sorry for the image it was the best of a bad lot.

the extent of red in the crown, what looks like a supercilium and a golden shoulder patch point towards firecrest, though it's difficult to evaluate them in the photos, the second image clinches it as firecrest for me - goldcrest has large white tips to the tertials.

The whitish underparts are a feature that often alerts me to a Firecrest. This can be seen in the first picture. Goldcrests are nearly always duller below. So I agree - its a Firecrest.

In both images the white super is abutted to a black lateral crown stripe....this could only occur on Firecrest!

definitely firecrest as goldcrests have yellow crests . never seen a firecrest! well done.

actually male Goldrests have bright orange crowns that they flash when angry or aroused!

In south west France I find the colour of the back a usefull id pointer...

definitely firecrest as goldcrests have yellow crests . never seen a firecrest! well done.

Goldcrest males show Orange in their ccrest too. The best way to tell is if it has white and black on the face or plain face
