GPO 8X26 (1 Viewer)

Well you made my heart skip a beat! The listing says FOV 536 feet as does the GPO official site. But after some looking around I found another site listing FOV as 356 feet which is more common for the format and almost certainly the correct spec.

Mike

Well, go ahead and try one, they have a 30 day return policy. Let us know how it compares.
Jerry

Jerry,

Once I sorted out the correct FOV I decided to pass as I already have an excellent example of the MIJ Zeiss Terra 8x25 which seems comparable in terms of the specs. The 26 mm objectives and 3.25 exit pupil of this GPO are interesting though. Maybe someone who doesn't already have a similar bin will try it out and report. GPO gets good reviews here.

Mike

It is hard to beat the Zeiss Terra, it is a solid value in the 8x25 size. I don't know of anything that
tops it, in the price range.
Jerry

mwhogue,
We have invstigated the GPO 8x26SD; the test data are written down in the test report of binocualrs designed for children etc, pubished on the WEB site of House of Outdoor. The GPO is not specially designed for use by children, but is, because of its beautiful compact design
(and very good optical qualities) suited for use by adults as well as by children age 12-18 years old.

Thank you Gijs. Nice informative work as always.

Yes, 356 feet is the correct FOV for the PASSION SD 8x26 (PASSION™ SD 8×26 – German Precision Optics)
The GPO-USA website has it misprinted.

I guess waterproof to 100 megabars (Mbars - as opposed to mbars = millibars) is also a misprint.

Why yet another 8x? The world is already full of all sorts of 8x something binos. Why not something interesting and useful and above all innovative instead of following the crowd, like a 7x26 or even a 6x26 - especially in such a nice small package? That would get GPO my attention. And likely my money too.

Hi Iggy,

Why an 8x26 from GPO?
Because they didn't had one in their collection and it sells.
Given the choice in the 300,00 range, it turns out the choice is GPO.
But my preference would have been to offer also a 7x26.....

Ok. Do you think that is due to the form factor? What I mean is that the 8x26 is a 'proper' binocular like the Maven C2 7x28 and not a double folding pocket jobbie. Because as much as I enjoy my Curio, a proper 7x26 or something in that vicinity would be great. The only reason I never got the Maven was because I had one of their demos in the USA and it was terrible. Nowhere near the mostly excellent B series in either manufacturing quality or IQ.

IMHO you can't put the Curio and the GPO in the same class simply because of the price difference. The GPO is not in that league nor is the customer looking for that league otherwise he would pay the 800,00 instead of 300,00.
There is no 800,00 bin in the 300,00 range.
In between there is the baby junior from Swaro. 480,00 euro for a very very decent piece of optics. Only the color prevents adults to buy it for themselves.
If I were you with your demands, I would buy the junior and never look for another bin.

Just rubberpaint the damn**d thing.

I know the Curio and the GPO aren't in the same class and I did not say they were. You said the GPO 8x26 sells well and I asked whether you think that is due to its form factor as a proper binocular (vis a vis for example a double-folding Zeiss Terra 8x25 or some such).

You could give me a baby Swaro as a present and it would go straight onto fleabay or willhaben.
There is only one Swarovski bino I am hankering after ⬇️

OK, misunderstood your simple question:rolleyes:
It's the quality/price what does the job. Single hinge or double foulding is just a matter of taste.

Regarding the Swaro 6x30. How many do you want?

:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: So true.

Well, I guess it's the same with cars. You might have scored an amazing deal at your favourite brand's dealership and get your dream car... in an awful colour because it was the last one on offer. But hey, let the rest have a laugh while you enjoy it!
