5 [FONT=courier new,monospace]Common</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 9px">Nighthawks[FONT=arial,helvetica,sans-serif] flying overhead!Lots of warblers including [FONT=courier new,monospace]Chestnut-sided,</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 9px">Blackpoll,Cape May,Yellow-Rumped[FONT=arial,helvetica,sans-serif] and [FONT=courier new,monospace]Yellow.[FONT=arial,helvetica,sans-serif]Also seen an unusual</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 9px">what I think was a loon( upturned head,sharp bill,was not a grebe or cormorant).</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 9px">Was too far to really identify with binocs and did not see again.In the yard were</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 9px">a [FONT=courier 9px">Walked from Cedar Vale rd(house)to the channel at Grand Beach and back.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 9px"></span></p><p><span style="font-size: 9px">Lots of birds around!The most exciting Sandpipers[FONT=arial,helvetica,sans-serif] who were immediately attacked by a [FONT=courier new,monospace]Peregrine</strong></span></p><p><span style="font-size: 9px"><strong>Falcon![FONT=arial,helvetica,sans-serif]Was not successful the falcon circled back chasing one sandpiper and</strong></span></p><p><span style="font-size: 9px"><strong>then gave up when the sandpiper landed on a rock![/FONT][/FONT][/FONT][/FONT]</strong>[FONT=courier new,monospace][FONT=arial,helvetica,sans-serif][FONT=courier new,monospace][FONT=arial,helvetica,sans-serif]</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 9px"></span></p><p><span style="font-size: 9px">Saturday afternoon.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 9px"></span></p><p><span style="font-size: 9px">Bike ride to East Beach via causeway,Trans Canada Trail.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 9px"></span></p><p><span style="font-size: 9px">First of many storms of the weekend as I drove out there and I got thoroughly drenched!</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 9px">Flushed up an[FONT=courier new,monospace] American Bittern[FONT=arial,helvetica,sans-serif] near the fishing bridge.In the waters near here </span></p><p><span style="font-size: 9px">were lots of goldeneye.At the sewage lagoons were [FONT=courier new,monospace]Wood Ducks[FONT=arial,helvetica,sans-serif] and a[FONT=courier new,monospace][FONT=arial,helvetica,sans-serif]n[/FONT] American</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 9px">Coot.<strong>[FONT=arial,helvetica,sans-serif]At the East Beach were huge numbers of Sanderling counted 38 in one</strong></span></p><p><span style="font-size: 9px"><strong>area and all along the beach were many more looking both ways with my</strong></span></p><p><span style="font-size: 9px"><strong>binocs.[/FONT]</strong>[FONT=arial,helvetica,sans-serif]Seen a wedding party taking photos down at channel here in this awful weather</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 9px">good luck with that!2 piping plovers were also seen here plus [FONT=courier new,monospace]Olive-sided Flycatcher[FONT=arial,helvetica,sans-serif]</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 9px">and an immature Bald Eagle.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 9px">Wild Wings Trail-[FONT=courier new,monospace]Mallard[FONT=arial,helvetica,sans-serif] hiding in the cattails ,[FONT=courier new,monospace]Swamp Sparrow,Palm Warbler,Blue-</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 9px">winged Teal[FONT=arial,helvetica,sans-serif] and 8 barn swallows attacking me on the boardwalk!</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 9px"></span></p><p><span style="font-size: 9px">Sunday morning</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 9px"></span></p><p><span style="font-size: 9px">Walk to the point.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 9px"></span></p><p><span style="font-size: 9px">Atrocious weather this morning it had rained all night and as I did this walk the waves were just</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 9px">crashing the rocks!Was afraid to walk this jut of land because at point the water was</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 9px">covering a whole section of it!Trudged on though and was rewarded with more Sanderling,</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 9px">two spotted sandpipers and a [FONT=courier new,monospace]Ruddy Turnstone.[FONT=arial,helvetica,sans-serif]Two of the sanderling were still in </span></p><p><span style="font-size: 9px">breeding plumage unlike the many others I saw.Many sparrows were seen foraging here and</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 9px">on the lake were many Commom Terns feeding on the lake.Most be something about the</span></p><p> <span style="font-size: 9px">weather and storm tossed fish?</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 9px"></span></p><p><span style="font-size: 9px">Noon-Foraging flock of birds,back lane.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 9px"></span></p><p><span style="font-size: 9px">Counted 11 species of warblers at this time included new for the weekend[FONT=courier new,monospace] Wilson's Warbler</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 9px">[FONT=arial,helvetica,sans-serif]and[FONT=courier new,monospace] Ovenbird.[FONT=arial,helvetica,sans-serif]Other new species were [FONT=courier new,monospace]Grey Catbird,Red-breasted Nuthatch,</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 9px">White-throated Sparrow,Winter Wren,Ruby-crowned Kinglet,[FONT=arial,helvetica,sans-serif]nicely colored</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 9px">male purple finch and checking out those burs that get caught all over your clothes a[FONT=courier new,monospace] Ruby-</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 9px">throated Hummingbird.[FONT=arial,helvetica,sans-serif]</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 9px"></span></p><p><span style="font-size: 9px">Sunday afternoon</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 9px"></span></p><p><span style="font-size: 9px">Bike trip to a sandbar.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 9px"></span></p><p><span style="font-size: 9px">From the Wild Wings trail could see a sandbar across the lagoon near the channel that always held</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 9px">a lot of birds.Maybe something interesting!But when I crossed the bridge at the channel and walked up</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 9px">some dunes the sandbar had disappeared from yesterday!Did watch the kite boarders who I guess</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 9px">were loving the stiff winds off the lake,Hopefully the piping plover and sanderling on shore were not</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 9px">bothered by all this action.Rested on a picnic table near the boat rental place on the lagoon</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 9px">were I saw a [FONT=courier new,monospace]Pied-billed Grebe[FONT=arial,helvetica,sans-serif] and 5 c.goldeneyes came off the shoreline.Also seen another</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 9px">species of warbler[FONT=courier new,monospace] Canada Warbler.[FONT=arial,helvetica,sans-serif]</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 9px">Winter getting close seen [FONT=courier new,monospace]Dark-eyed Juncos[FONT=arial,helvetica,sans-serif] on the boardwalk behind the inn!</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 9px"></span></p><p><span style="font-size: 9px">Spirit Rock Trail</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 9px"></span></p><p><span style="font-size: 9px">There is moist dark area on this trail were I saw many flycatchers and wrens.Surprised to see a</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 9px">[FONT=courier new,monospace]Sedge Wren[FONT=arial,helvetica,sans-serif] here,had to have a second look at the birding for the weekend,so tired Sunday night hit the sack at 7pm! My brother has a motion sensor in his backyard and was I waken up by a skunk one morning and a big raccoon the other! I.D question- size of a robin,grosbeak sized beak,mostly whitish feathering,brown bordering on face like lark sparrow,had a scruffy crest brown,hopped on ground ,checked my sibleys nothing like it, any ideas?
