What a great morning! I spent part of it in my town and then went to Lakeland which is the next town over from us. I did my count there at Saddle Creek State Park. Lots of lakes and forest. Also some alligators :eek!: which, I'm happy to say, I didn't see. My count at Saddle Creek was: Double-crested Cormorant 1 Anhinga 2 Great Blue Heron 1 Great Egret 2 Turkey Vulture 30 Osprey 1 Bald Eagle 1 Purple Gallinule 1 American Coot 4 Eurasian Collared-Dove 1 Belted Kingfisher 1 Blue-gray Gnatcatcher 6 Red-winged Blackbird 1 I also saw a hawk of some sort. It went by so fast I couldn't be sure of what it was. When I came back to town, I finnally spotted the Sandhill Cranes along with the following: Mallard 4 Little Blue Heron 1 Cattle Egret 10 White Ibis 20 Turkey Vulture 28 Limpkin 4 Sandhill Crane 2 Tree Swallow 200 Yellow-throated Warbler 2 Northern Cardinal 2 We see the cranes around here frequently but, for some reason, I've never been able to observe them during the bird count. The biggest surprise was, I think they are building a nest! :t: There's a photo of one of the birds gathering sticks and grass attached below, another crane photo and one of a great blue heron. I also bought, what I hope is, a squirrel proof bird feeder. I enjoy the squirrels but they're a PITA! :-O Anyway, it was a lot of fun and a lot of walking.
