Hello my fellow binocular aficionados! I hope you guys are having a fun Thanksgiving weekend. If you are a hard-core Leica fan, I have some great news for you! I am planning to sell some binoculars in my binocular collection and among these are the super cute Leica Duovid 8-12X42 in Hunter Green. The production of the green model has been discontinued by Leica so you can't find these in stores. Mine are among the last production samples of the green model and they are in "as new" condition. The picture quality is second to none and the build quality is far better than the current Ultravid models. They come with fine-grade leather pouch, all Leica doumentaion and original box.

The list price for these binoculars is $2845 and they currently sell for $2595. (Check for yourself on reputable on-line retail sites such as Amazon, B&H Photo Video, etc.)

I am posting my note here cause I want to give you guys the oportunity to get these if you are hard-core Leica fans. I am not running out of money or anything!! ;) Just have this feeling that I have collected way too many binoculars which I don't really use. So if any of you guys is really into Leica binoculrs and will promise that he/she will love them as much as I do |8)|, then send me a private message and make a reasonable offer!

Cheers!
-Omid

PPS. I also have a new pair of Zeiss 15x60 B/GA T* which I might consider selling if you can demonstrate that you KNOW about Zeiss and you are a big fan. To see a picture of these, simply google "Zeiss 15x60". The first picture returned by google shows my binoculars! :t:

Dr. Omid,

Bit steep for me, but I might buy the Red Island cold pressed olive oil. :)

I can't believe you are considering selling the 15x60 Zeiss at a time when I'm broke. Last year, I would have offered you two of my three wives for them, but due to the downturn, I need them out working the fields. :)

Good Luck! with your sales.

Hi Omid,
I do a lot of night sky observing (in fact my birding ability sucks big time) and among other things I use a Fujinon 16x70, which I have to stop down to 60mm so it will be sharp enough for me. I have often read of the legendary quality of the Zeiss 15x60, but an interesting and highly trustworthy counterexample is the recent experience of respected member Jean Charles, who over on Cloudy Nights has regaled and challenged us with a slight problem (which naturally he solved himself) with his 15x60, which was traced to turned down edge(!) in the objectives, which he addresses by stopping down to 56mm. Still I'm tempted by the many other claims of hyperionity.

Sadly, my Zeiss experience is short, consisting solely of a relatively new 8x42 FL, the only one of my binoculars to beat my 7x50 FMT-SX. It is the sharpest binocular on birds and stars that I have ever seen. Love the FL as I may, this hardly qualifies me, but my knowledge is at least not dead zilch, and I am thinking about preparing a resume, perhaps with professional help, and buying a sheaf of good quality bond paper to print it out on.

Seeing that this is not so much a "money" deal for you as a "love" deal, it also occurs to me that, if the prospective parent really seemed to have the right stuff, even though lacking hard Zeiss experience, which I believe describes myself, then not only might you accept a rather more modest offer than from some heathen, but, probably still having understandable doubts about my worthiness, you might be willing to consider the option, given your means, of flying myself and my wife out to Palm Beach for a few days for an in depth interview. I'm sure you are aware that she must be a supportive partner in this, since some nights it will come down to "it" vs "her", and she must be entirely accepting and prepared for the new arrangement. It is getting cold as hell here and a snowstorm is supposed to hit tomorrow night. I would hope that if we did REALLY REALLY well, and furthermore of course decided to ACCEPT the Zeiss, we might even get out of there with a free binocular, and your blessing.

Yes, temmie. The 15x60 binoculars were made in the Zeiss plant in the Donbas city of Yuzovka using local farming tools. That's why their glass is a little bit dim but the lenses are still in good shape (most of them actually have a round shape like kind of a circle). Reports vary but Zeiss documets released after the fall of the Soviet Union show that some 12 million of these binoculars were produced for use by the Red Army snipers during the 6th World Festival of Youth and Students held in Moscow in the summer of 1957.
