Green Listing 2024 - Joint Thread (1 Viewer)

A couple new for the year for me today after two days away...

87 - Barn Swallow - 5th April
88 - House Martin - 5th April

They appear to be 112 & 113 for the UK for the year. Certainly other potential additions locally if the wind and rain subside at any point...

All the best

Paul

After failing to find Ring Ouzel at what tends to be the best location nearby (the highest accessible slag heap) I went to one nearby that has only recently become accessible. Although this heap is far less impressive, here I found 21, my third best day ever (the other two were on the Dutch coast).
My other targets did not play along at all.

I also saw Pied Flycatcher today (I had expected one yesterday: I actually passed the site where I found this bird!)
Common Whitethroat (which usually shows up on 14 April) was an expected early arrival on my patch based on sightings nearby yesterday (my earliest ever in NL (11/4), BE (10/4), UK (10/4) and DE (12/4).

I had been expecting a Nightingale for the last few days, as they tend to be common along the canal I cycle along on the way to work, but I had to go to the prime spots nearby to find one.

Been tied up & away for a few days but back today...

90 - Western Yellow Wagtail (Blue-headed) 17th April

This looks like 115 for the UK for the year.

All the best

Wood warbler singing in it's usual spot today (I can hear it as I write this :))

Think it must have just arrived as I did the same walk from the house on Friday and there was no sign.

Nice one! Hard going here with the prolonged winter, so far this month I've added four to Europe and the World's's total :
Red-billed Chough
Wryneck
Serin
Rock Bunting
I'm a bit of a Techno dinosaur so can someone explain to what the figures in Column A refer?

Finally, another addition with a fly through this morning on my usual walk:-

99. Pink-footed Goose 30th April

This seems to be 122 for the UK.

All the best
