Hello! Like many others, I got into birding during the pandemic. It all started when I was quarantining with my partner in our tiny apartment, and I kept hearing this loud, obnoxious sound outside our window. It used to annoy me, but then I looked up what I thought the sound was and it turned out that we had California Scrub Jays claiming territory outside. After learning about this wonderful bird and finally seeing one, confirming the identification, I no longer found the sounds obnoxious, but endearing. I started feeding them peanuts outside, and that was my animal comfort for much of 2020. Then I began discovering other awesome local birds, like the Dark-eyed Junco, Spotted Towhee, Anna’s Hummingbird, Northern Flicker, and others. I also began appreciating some of the more “common” birds like American Crows and American Robins. I find birdwatching, reading about birds, and viewing bird media to be both entertaining and comforting, so after I stumbled upon this forum I figured I had to sign up! Thanks for being here.
