My name is Matt, I'm a new bird watcher/photographer based in Kanab, Utah, just a few miles from the Arizona border in red rock country. I just recently began watching and photographing birds, I've been using a camera for about 10 years now but only been photographing birds seriously for about the last month. It's challenging, but also exciting when a new bird pops up in the view finder. I still primarily shoot in my back yard, which borders an expanse of BLM land, so it's not the typical urban yard. Looking forward to being a part of this community.

Hi Matt and a warm welcome to you from all the Staff and Moderators.

It sounds like you live in a lovely place but what is "BLM land"? Not a term I've come across before.

I'm sure you will enjoy it here. I look forward to hearing your news and will hopefully see some of your pictures in the Gallery too.

No worries, in the Western United States the government owns a fair bit of land that is held for public use, i.e. hiking, recreational activities, cattle grazing, etc. BLM is the agency that typically manages that land, the Bureau of Land Management by title. Sorry for the confusion.

Hi Matt, welcome to the forum. I think you will find us a friendly and helpful group.

Hola Matt! Welcome to Birdforum (y)

Looking forward to see some of your photos in the gallery soon.
