Hi all. new birder here. In my backyard I've created a little "bird sanctuary". The landscaping is designed around giving the birds a place to eat and drink in safety. The inner perimeter is fenced with waste high kennel-fencing, and the plants are arranged in such a way that any (non avian) predator has no choice but to jump the fence and then cross wide open ground to gt at my birds. Then there is what I call the "DMZ". It is a 5-6 foot trail that encircles the inner fencing. Beyond that are thick and tall shrubs, and then finally the privacy fence. The shrubs provide good protection to the birds when they need to shelter from a predator.
I'm running 14 feeders and 4 birdbaths. All cleaned with a vinegar and water solution daily. Once a week I take it all down and clean them with bleach.
Cardinals have moved in in such vast numbers that sometimes I just call my setup "The Cardinal farm". Not that I don't have plenty of other birds. I do, and am very much looking forward to fall; over the summer I've enjoyed watching many juvenille birds gradually growing and fledging. Most of mine are now in what I call "their awkward teenage phase".
It all started with one feeder and then... I got a little carried away perhaps?
Mentioning all this cause I have questions regarding it that someone experienced might shed light on, but I will save that for an appropriate thread.
Edit: This guy (actually prob female) loves this feeder.
