Hi Bri
any lapwings...we have lost all of ours

As Marks says, these are the two sites that are favoured at the moment. 3-4 pairs seem to be settling in at Camp Lane Pits and maybe a few pairs will attempt to nest at Sling Pool if the farmer's pump doesn't dry it out anytime soon. Was good in the winter here, with numbers peaking at c580.

Cheers Brian, it is a bit worrying that we have got no birds on site at Upton warren at the moment. Even allowing for the harsh weather, they should be present, if they were going to breed this year.

A bitter couple or so hours at Camp Lane pits this morning, but worth it for the quality of birds seen. 6 LRP, 3 Redshank, 3 Pintail, Goldeneye, Little Owl, Little Egret, 2 White Wagtails amongst 50 plus Pied Wagtails. Final list of sightings attached.

To add to Gert's sightings, the 3 wintering Green Sandpipers were at Wagon Wheel Lane Pits and a Woodcock flew from bramble scrub at the old workings - amazingly only my third on the patch in 16 years of coverage.

Dropped in at Grimley yesterday afternoon after covering my patch.

Holt Sling Pool still held c.60 Wigeon and 2 Oystercatcher were also of note here.

At Camp Lane Pits there were 6 LRP and 2 Redshank of note. 2 Common Gulls were present with the Black-headed Gulls.

C.40 Pied Wagtails were present along shoreline. No sign of any White Wags but there were a couple of very pale 2nd calendar year female Pied Wags that could possibly be mistaken for White Wagtails without checking out in a scope

Agree Jase. This happens every year. The first claim of White at Grimley was on March 1st this year, way before the first was noted on Portland! Make of that what you will......

There were 15 LRPs at CLP yesterday morning so sounds like a few moving through there.

That's a great count on LRP Brian...lets hope a few more waders also pass through!

Treated to my first Swallow of summer this evening at 5.45pm at Grimley.
Other highlights were 4 Sandmartin, 1 Redshank, 3 Pintail, 2 Oystercatcher, 2 Chiffchaff. This place is a real grower.

Also tried the flash at Holt. Was a cracking site. Good numbers of diving ducks, Lapwing, a Green Sand plus plenty of other common species.

Took the below photo to show other the type of terrain.

A trickle of summer migrants at Grimley and Holt yesterday: 2 Yellow Wagtails, 6 White Wagtails, Willow Warbler, several Chiffchaffs and Ringed Plover along with the long-staying female Goldeneye and trio of Pintail at Camp Lane Pits.

3 Yellow Wagtails and 2 Green Sandpipers at Holt on Sling Pool floods and a Willow Warbler nearby.

Visited Camp Lane pits this afternoon. Highlights included 7 Ringed Plover, 8 LRP, 1 Dunlin, 1 Redshank, 1 Yellow Wagtail and 1 White Wagtail.

Things were quieter at Holt with the undoubted highlight being a very showy Lesser Whitethroat near Sling Pool. Also of note were 2 Oystercatcher, 2 Redshank and a flyover Yellow Wagtail.

Nice Record Image! :t: Whats it like there for photographing the birds are they close or far away?

Hi Joe,

In general the distances are too great for close up photography (there are no hides) but it can be possible to get very good views of the commoner birds as they have got used to people walking along the causeways. Some migrants can also show exceptionally well, the current Bar-tailed Godwit being a case in point. Over the years I've had my best views anywhere of Black Tern, Garganey and Sanderling for example. One of the latter showed down to 4 feet many years ago!

More pictures of the Temminck's Stint here and the Bar-tailed Godwit here.
